Introduction  

The institution commenced undergraduate course in 1984 and stepped up in 1992 to begin with post-graduation. In 2002 it has reached to height in having recognized research centre. Department is running these course efficiently to date.

The faculty of the department comprises twelve teaching positions. The department has enrolled 180 students for UG, 47 for PG and 09 as doctoral scholars.

  Total built up area of department is 5400 sq. ft. Each student use to perform his/her allotted practical and project work in respective laboratories in eco-friendly atmosphere. Department comprises well equipped laboratories and advanced investigating instruments. Research facilities are provided to the students coming from remote area. Department library is enriched with reference materials such as back journals, reference book and awarded thesis. Number of research journals and more than 2000 books are available in the central library too. Internet facility helps the students to access research journals free of cost.

The department is well recognized for its academic and research activities not only locally but also globally. Its growing reputation in the field is well acknowledged by the fact that department has obtained the university grant commission assistance to strengthen the ongoing research work by CPE-BSR, RUSA schemes.  

The seven minor / major research projects of UGC, DST are in the name of department in completed form, which supports small pharma companies and other department of college for their regularly requirement, analysis method and validation etc. The department is engaged for the preparation of UGC-CSIR and Shamaprasad Mukharji fellowships.

The pioneer research work is flourishing in the area of medicinal chemistry, heterocyclic chemistry, green chemistry, co-ordination chemistry and chemical kinetics. At present department has collaboration with national and international research laboratories.

The entire faculty members play active role in research, which is counted by publications of more than 201 research papers in peer reviewed national and international journals.

To put forth the achievement proudly we have 24 research scholars who have been awarded with doctoral degree and 60 students who have qualified SET/NET/GATE/JRF examinations are the product of guidance centre run here.

Our department has been honoured as a ‘Star Department” by UGC under the scheme named college for potential with excellence (CPE) as it follows the aims and objectives.
