Intoduction

The department of Zoology was started in July 1984 from the opening of this college. In the beginning there were only 14 students and only one faculty member Dr.Garad Vasant Bhujangrao, he was the first teacher of this college who conducted first teaching period in the subject of zoology as per the time table on the first working day of this college. Department of Zoology was recognized as research centre by S.R.T.M. University, Nanded in year 2003. In the year 2003-2004, M.Sc. regular course was started.

International collaboration

In year 2010 December, The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed with Department of Helminthology, Institute of Parasitology, Branisovska, ASCR, Ceske Budejovice, Czech republic and Parasitological institute, Cosecs, Slovak Republic for the scientific cooperation and research in collaboration for the mutual interests in the field of Parasitology, especially Fish Parasitology.

Admission/Eligibility Criteria/Procedure

  1. For U.G. -XII Science (H.S.C. Science exam) passed. Admission procedure as per the rules and the regulations of S.R.T.M University, Nanded.
  2. For P.-B.Sc. with Zoology as one of the optional subject, securing at least 45% marks in subject Zoology.
  3. For Ph. – Admission procedure is done as per the rules and regulations of S.R.T.M. University, Nanded.

Laboratory Facilities

  1. Organizations of excursions (Study tours) for the students every year since, 1987 to different places of scientific, cultural and historical importance in India.
  2. Facilities for the college staff to know their blood pressure and blood glucose.
  3. There are two laboratories, one store, one staff room and separate research laboratory.

Any other facilities

The department of Zoology provides laboratory facilities to the researchers from other departments of the college and other institutions by charging minimum concessional fees, it is research extension activity.

Achievements

This department has developed tie ups with the research institutions in Czech Republic and Slovak Republic for furthering the cause of advanced research in the field of Parasitology during the partial sponsorship for the one month Post-Doctoral Research Trainingin the basics of Fish Parasitology in Czech Republic in November, 2010.

Placement

On the basis of the information provided by the Zoology Department, the placement cell of college organise the placement camps for the students and thy are then placed in different establishments by campus interviews.
