INTRODUCTION

Department of Botany is established in June 1984 with 08 students at F.Y. B. Sc. level by former Principal B.S. Solunke. Botany Department is an integral part of the college and is one of the best Departments in Lice Sciences. The Department runs two courses viz B.Sc. (Three years degree course as one of the optional subject) and M.Sc. (Botany- Two years degree course) also a recognized research centre of S.R.T.M.U, Nanded. The department has approx. 1700 sq.ft built area.  Dr. S.D.Biradar is heading the Department of Botany.

STRONG POINTS OF THE DEPARTMENT

              The Botany Department of this college has received a reputation for providing quality education and fulfilling the growing needs within the district and SRTMU Nanded Jurisdiction. Department has well-equipped Laboratory with computing facility for students and teachers. Enough laboratory time is made available to the students for maximum utilization of laboratory.

Our main strength is highly qualified and experienced enthusiastic faculty which is activelyengaged in research and are update in teaching learning skills.

 Apart from teaching schedule the faculty members gives parental care to the students.

  • Botanical Excursion: Every year the Department arranges one Long and one short excursion in Maharashtra and out of the state to study the plants growing in different ecologically adapted conditions.
  • Exhibition:  Exhibition of locally available Medicinal plantsarearranged for students and people of nearby area.
  • Conducts seminars, debits & other competitive exams.
  • Organisation of Dr.  V. N. Naik Memorial Lecture Series from 19/10/2013

ACTIVITIES OF BOTANY DEPARTMENT

STUDY TOUR AT KALASH SEEDS CO. JALNA

Botany Department has organised Botanical Excursion to Kalash seeds Jalana on 12 th of Jan 2016 to study the different hybrid varieties of vegetables developed by plant breeding techniques. Dr. S. D. Biradar, Dr. B. M. Kareppa, Ms.SyedaShirin, Ms Naziya Khan and Mr.UbedPathan  along with 56 Girls, 23 Boys of B.Sc. and M.Sc. Classes.

DR. V. N. NAIK MEMORIAL LECTURE SERIES

Botany Department has organising Dr. V. N. Naik Memorial lecture series to honour renowned taxonomist of Marathwada region from 19th October 2013.  On this occasion Prof Raghwendra M. Pai was invited to deliver a lecture on   Nuances of Biodiversity. He has given the information of origin of angiosperms and their migration and diversity. Prof Pai was felicitated by Dr Mrs.SandhyataiDudhgaonkar, Secretary DnyanopasakShikshanMandalParbhani for his life time achievement.

Dr. D. N. Kulkarni  chairman Jain Irrigation, Jalgaon, as a chairperson of this lecture. Dr.MrsDharmadhikari  andDr. P. L. More, Principal D. S. M. College , Dr. P.S.Wakte, Head , Microbiology Department, Dr. S.D. Biradar, Head , Department of Botany were present .  Dr. Mrs S. G.PillaiShriShivaji College Parbhani, Dr. S.V. Modak,  B. Raghunath College Parbhani and Dr. P.R. Kanthale, NuthaMahavidyalaya , Sailu were present for lecture. Dr. A.V. Manwar, Dr. Shiva Aithal ,Dr. D. P. Ghorband , Shri R. M. Bagal  and Shri M. G. Raut were helped for the successes of this programme.

TREE PLANTATION PROGRAMME

Botany Department has taken initiative to respond environment ministry of state government of Maharashtra for plantation of trees. On 4th of July 2016 the Department has conducted tree plantation programme, on this occasion Dr. Mrs sandhyatai Dudhgaonkar, Secretary Dnyanopasak Shikshan Mandal Parbhani, Dr. P.L. More, ShriKailashGaikwad Agriculture officer, Dr. S. D. Biradar Associate Professor and Head Department of Botany, Dr. B. M. Kareppa Associate Professor of Botany, Dr. D. P. Ghorband Assistant Professor of Botany were present. On this occasion  Pongameapinnata, Azadirachtaindica, Ficusbenghalensis, Ficusreligiosaetc were planted. For the success of this programme Prof Ashok Jondhale, Prof P.B. Khanale Dr. B.C. Khade. Dr. sheikh Babar,Dr. M.P. Sarwade and students of B.Sc. F.Y.  Miss Ashwini Herode, miss shrutiLavekar, Miss Mayuri Sarda, Miss Diwyangi Kadam ,Miss Bhairavi Kotambe, Miss Farah Khan ,Mr, Raiz Shaikh and Mr Jameel Hussen and Shri M.G. Raut , ShriThosare, ShriChhate, Shri Bhatwad andShri BapuIkkar  were participated in tree plantation programme.

BOTANICAL EXCURSION AT CHIKHALDARA

Department has organised Botanical excursion at Melghat  during 24th  to 26th  October 2016,  48 B.Sc. students along with teachers Dr. S.D.Biradar, Dr. B. M. Kareppa, Dr.U.L.Ingle Miss Jyoti Ghodke and Mr. M.G Raut were visited to study  diversity and distribution of angiospermic plants, ecological adaptation in plants and traditional uses of medicinal plants by tribal people of the region.
