Introduction :

           Parbhani is a land of genius Mathematician Bhaskarachrya who has invented ZERO. Mathematics is a king of all the Sciences. Mathematics is as old as human culture. Study of Mathematics improves logical and rational thinking & thus helps in the development of the nation. Mathematics plays a vital role in the research of almost all the subjects including physical, chemical, biological as well as social sciences. The study  of Mathematics is essential to human being for effective citizenship. Hence study of Mathematics is must    for human being.

         By finding such a huge importance of the Mathematics subject, Government has made Mathematics as a compulsory subject up to the high school level. Mathematics is available as one of the basic optional        subjects at under graduate level and Mathematics can also be studied at post graduate level. M.Sc. Tech. Industrial Mathematics is also available in some institutions.

Establishment of Mathematics Department :

          Dnyanopasak Shikshan Mandal’s College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Parbhani  introduced       Mathematics as one of the optional subjects at under graduate level from beginning of the college i.e. in the year 1984. In its infancy, the department was having just 3 (three) students. Department initially started      with    Dr.P.L. More and Shri. S.V. Palkar as the lecturers.

Progress of the Department :

          Due to the dedicated teaching staff, subject was becoming more and more popular among the students. Dr. A. B. Jadhav joined as a lecturer in Mathematics in year 1993. Then the department was more strengthened and need was felt to introduce the post graduate course in Mathematics. Consequently the college started post graduate course in Mathematics on permanently non-grant basis in June 1993. Shri. V. A. Kalyan joined as a lecturer in Mathematics in year 2005. Present age of the department is 32 years. 30 batches of U.G. and 21 batches of P.G. have been trained and coached till June 2016. At present 2 lecturers in U.G. Mathematics , and 3 in P.G. Mathematics are working in department.

Strong points of the Department :

     Even though maximum students consider Mathematics as the most difficult subject, the passing percentage of students of Mathematics department of this college in the University Exams is consistently above     80 % at U.G. level.

     Most of the students score more marks in Mathematics as compared to other optional subjects.

     In last decade four students of Mathematics department stood Merit First, second or third in University Exam at P.G. level. One student qualified in SET Exam in 2016.

    Mathematics Club is formed every year. Students actively participate in various activities of the Mathematics Club such as Teacher’s Day, National Youth Day, Gurupoornima, Fresher’s   Welcome Party, Send-Off Ceremony etc. Every year department arranges seminars for students, publishes 7-8 wallpapers on various branches of Mathematics and also arranges guest lecturers for students. Madhava Mathematics Competition (MMC) and Ramanujan Competition in Mathematics Knowledge (RCMK) is conducted for students of Parbhani district.

Admission/Eligibility/Criteria/Procedure :

  1. For UG : H.S.C. Pass with Mathematics as one of the optional subjects.
  2. For P.G. : B.Sc. ( Mathematics ) Pass with at least  45%  for Open Category and at least 40% for Reserved Category.

Laborator Facilities :

         A well equipped Laboratory with 7 Computers, LCD Projector, Printers, Inverter, Scanner, and A.C. is available with the Mathematics department.

Any other facilities :

         A departmental library is available with the Mathematics department. Books and Journals available in this library are accessible by students and teaching staff.

Achievements :

      More than 50 % colleges of Parbhani and Hingoli districts have recruited those Mathematics lecturers who have completed their M.Sc. Mathematics (P.G.) in this department. Around 25 Ex-students of the department are working as lecturers in various senior and junior colleges. About 5 Ex-students of the department are working as class one officers in Govt. services. Some of them are working as D. I. O. ( District Information Officer ). About 10 Ex-students of the department are working in other Govt. offices such as Nationalized Banks, Indian Post, Zillah Parishad etc.
